KARE around the World:
Barcelona

Get to know the Catalan metropolis from an insider's perspective:
Our colleague, interior designer and manager of KARE Barcelona Dan Tasca, has personal tips on trendy neighborhoods, great restaurants and stores.
And because not only Barcelona is his passion but also interior design, he reveals a few professional tricks for furnishing.
WHAT IS TYPICAL OF THE LIFESTYLE IN BARCELONA?
“The lifestyle in Barcelona is casual and informal, and you'll see that on the streets. People are relaxed in their attitude and in their clothes.
But don't mistake this for a lack of style. On the contrary, people are extremely stylish and fashionable in this informal and casual way.
So be sure to bring comfortable shoes for walking. But not Crocs please, Barcelona is a stylish city and everyone enjoys stylish outfits.”

WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO BRING A BREATH OF FRESH AIR INTO THE LIVING ROOM AND HOW DO YOU GET STARTED?
“Clear out the room and muck out - a refreshing experience! Look at the room with new eyes and experiment with the placement of key pieces of furniture such as the sofa or sideboard.
Start with just a few pieces and create a structure with a stylish sofa, an unusual decorative object and an eye-catching wall decoration such as a mirror. Then add a few other elements such as light sources and side tables, but don't overload the room...”

YOUR PERSONAL TIP FOR DINING?
“There are countless restaurants with very good prices and fantastic food. There are, of course, the Michelin-starred restaurants. My advice is to eat in unexpected places.
Even small and inconspicuous restaurants in the Eixample district offer delicacies - and often surprising interior design. My next tip: visit markets such as the Mercat del Ninot.
Here you can find the freshest fish, which is prepared right in front of your eyes. Afterwards, a glass of local vermouth on the terrace is a must.”

DANS SPECIAL TIP: CALCOTS
Discover the diversity of Catalan cuisine beyond the Crema Catalana.
“Try the unique preparation of calcots, a cross between spring onions and leeks, grilled over charcoal for a fantastic flavor.
After removing the outer leaves, dip the succulent calcots in a delicious romesco sauce made from tomatoes, garlic and almonds - an unforgettable culinary experience!”

WHAT IS A MUST-SEE?
Barcelona shines with Gaudí's masterpieces:
“The Casa Batlló fascinates with its undulating façade and colorful mosaics. The Sagrada Família impresses with its spectacular towers. The Parc Güell enchants with its fairytale landscapes, and the Casa Vicens captivates with its bright colors and detailed tile work. A must for art and architecture lovers!”
